Franklin Barbecue: This restaurant is rated to have some of the best barbecue in the United States, people will wait in line for HOURS to get their hands on some brisket, smoked turkey, and pulled pork. On weekends, the line can take up to five hours. However, waiting in line is part of the experience so bring your fold up chairs, lots of beer, and a good time! The word on the street is that it is well-worth the wait in the end.

South Congress Cafe: Located in South Austin, experience what Tex-Mex is all about at this restaurant! A brunch menu is also offered that contains an assortment of refreshing cocktails.

Food Trucks: A unique touch to Austin is the various amounts of food trucks spread out on every corner. They offer a variety of food from burritos, to barbeque, to cupcakes, and so much more. Two well-known food trucks to find are Via 313, where you can try a Detroit-style pizza, and Torchey’s Tacos, who offers the most delicious breakfast taco!



Hope Outdoor Gallery: Also known as Castle Hill Graffiti Park, visitors can bring their own spray paint and continue to graffiti this magnificent, ongoing mural. Climb up to the top of the wall before you leave and enjoy a view of the city.

Greetings from Austin: On the corner of West Annie Street and South 1st Street is this huge, colorful mural that writes “Greetings from Austin.” This spot makes the perfect Austin photo-op!

The Driskill: This hotel is a top, must-see attraction in Austin. Made in 1889, it is rumored to have a guest room on the fifth floor that is haunted. Walk around the lobby to discover the beautiful designs or hit the bar to get a drink and listen to some live music!

State Capitol Building: Austin is the capital of Texas so downtown lies the famous State Capitol Building. The outside is surrounded by grass, trees, and beautiful architecture. If you go inside, climb up to the dome to seek a beautiful view of Austin. Self-guided or group tours are offered for free!

Zilker Metropolitan Park: Seek the Botanical Gardens, visit the Nature and Science Center, go to a concert at Zilker Hillside Theatre, or even rent a kayak to paddle down the lake, the options are endless! Zilker Park is a beautiful, must-see location when visiting Austin. The Barton Springs Pool is a freshwater swimming hole that is also located in Zilker Park. This makes the perfect spot for a refreshing swim, especially during Austin’s hot Summers.

Hamilton Pool: If you want to explore outside the city, this natural swimming hole has an amazing, outdoor atmosphere. However, check the website before visiting because the pool can occasionally be closed due to weather, or wait lines can be long in the Summer.  



Watch the Bats: Gather around at the South Congress Bridge to watch the bats swarm out from under the bridge and into the sunset. Over a million bats fly out during sunset, something you don’t want to miss!

Mount Bonnell: Take a hike up to Mount Bonnell to admire the overlooking view of the city. Arrive during the day or sit and watch the sunset close over Austin.
